Job description - Site Assistant (singleton or job share couple)
We are seeking a single person (or a 50% job share for a couple) to join the site staff at Bellingham Camping and Caravanning Club Site from 6th April to 5th October 2022, inclusive.
Our touring site with around 70 pitches is beautifully situated 0.75 miles from the small town of Bellingham, known as the “Gateway to the Northumberland National Park”. The site is popular and has a strong reputation amongst our loyal clientele who come to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the National Park. There are many opportunities to enjoy outdoor pursuits close to the site and the proximity to Bellingham is a great asset. The site, which is predominantly open with some wooded areas, has around 70 pitches, 43 of which are hardstanding, and is 5-star rated by Visit England and holds a 5-pennant gold AA award. Our facilities include a shop/reception, the usual toilet/shower block, dishwashing, laundry and chemical disposal point, as well as a play area, indoor refuge room, kitchen and games room. We are currently creating a larger ball playing area. Bellingham offers small shops, a supermarket, three pubs/hotels, 3 cafes, and a small heritage museum run by volunteers.
The site is owned and run by us as a franchise with the Camping and Caravanning Club and, as such, we are one of the main UK Club Sites and bookings are taken through their system. However, we do have some differences to other Club Sites in the way we operate and we also employ our own staff. We have the help of two Site Managers (a couple) who are already in place. We require an additional person to share responsibilities with the four of us. Duties are broad and will include groundwork (pitch maintenance, mowing, weeding, pruning etc), reception work (taking bookings, payments, checking-in customers and shopkeeping), showing campers to pitches, cleaning the facilities (including toilets/showers, indoor refuge, kitchen and camping pods), collecting refuse, and perhaps some general maintenance and repair work. We pride customer service above all else and will be particularly interested in someone who is good with people. No previous campsite work experience is necessary, although experience in the hospitality industry will be an advantage. We need someone who has an overriding positive attitude, works hard and well with others, and never fails to put the customer first.
The position is for 37 hours per week over 5 consecutive days, Saturday-Wednesday (with variable shifts, including late shifts), and is paid at a level at least 5% in excess of the National Minimum Wage. In addition, you will have a free pitch for your own motorhome or caravan for the duration of your contract. It is essential that you live on site during your days on duty. You will also be entitled to free gas, electricity and laundry. Note that none of our pitches are served with water/drainage and you will need to fill/empty as the touring campers do. We offer a workplace pension scheme. We would prefer holidays are not taken in peak season but can discuss opportunities for breaks during quieter periods should that be required. Accrued holiday pay is paid at the end of your contract. As stated above, the post suits a single person best, but we would consider a couple if they are willing to split the 37 hours according to the allocated shifts. There is a strong possibility that the position can be continued for the 2023 season.
To find out more information and to apply, please email your covering letter and CV to Bellingham.email@example.com
Closing Date: 31st Oct 2021
As stated above, you are required to live on-site in your own motorhome or caravan (max. 8.3 m length) on a provided free pitch, with free gas cyclinder exchange, free electricity and laundry.
A peaceful award winning touring site with high quality facilities, situated in a privileged location in the beautiful North Tyne valley, inside the Northumberland National Park, within easy reach of the best of Northumberland. We are a Camping and Caravanning Club site and accept non-members. We are in possession of Visit England 5 star and AA 5 gold pennant ratings for 2015-2021. We have 70 pitches, of which 43 are hardstanding. All pitches are serviced with 16A electric hook-ups. Four Camping Pods are also available for hire. The facilities block provides free hot water at all times. The site shop is well stocked with basic grocery (including local produce), drinks, ice creams and camping items accessories. We also have a childrens’ play area. In 2014 we renovated a building to create a large indoor faciliity to improve campers’ experience on site. The facility includes a meeting/living area with TV/DVD and log-burning stove, kitchen, drying room, games room and additional small washroom facility for use by camping pod users (washroom will be in general use in quiet winter months). The site is within easy strolling distance to Bellingham village, its pubs and cafes, and the spectacular waterfall of Hareshaw Linn. The Pennine Way passes by the site and the North Tyne provides beautiful riverside walks or excellent fly fishing. Canoeing and golf are also available very close to the site. The adventurous can undertake challenging mountain biking in Kielder Forest, while Kielder Water with its watersports, lakeside walks, art and cycle trails, is wonderful for families. The forest has nesting ospreys, red squirrels, and the darkest night skies in England. This land bares vivid reminders of its past; and none more spectacular than Hadrian’s Wall, a short drive from the site. The historic houses of Cragside and Wallington are nearby, while Alnwick, the Simonside Hills, and the castles and coastline of Northumberland make wonderful day trips. The site is also on a direct bus route to Hexham, with connections to Hadrian’s Wall and Newcastle. We offer special events on site and have run special package tours.
